Red Fox Brewery is to start brewing at Upphall Farm, near Coggeshall on the site of some old chicken sheds. Owner and farmer, John Rayner, is in the process of providing purpose built accommodation for the brewery and has said he thinks that beer smells an awful lot better then chickens!
Founder
and Red Fox brewer, Russ Barnes, brings experience of another Essex brewer - Crouch Vale. He was the brewer there when they won the CAMRA Supreme Champion Beer of Great Britain award two years running, with the superb Brewer's Gold. After almost 4 years at Crouch Vale, Russ finally gets to start his own brewery.
The brewery is a 5-barrel plant (800 litre brew length) and when it's up and running, there will be  a virtual brewery tour on the web site.
Brewing is planned from mid-July and the first beers are; Fox & Hind Bitter, Hunter's Gold and Red Fox Mild. Upcoming and occasional beers are; Black Fox Porter, Equinox and  Sly Old Fox.

Chalk and Cheese… Greene King has graciously absorbed the increased costs of insuring their pubs rather than passing the charge on to its tenants. Stuart Bateman, MD of Bateman's pointed out that his company stands the whole cost of the insurance on their pubs saying: "Why should tenants pay for insuring pubs - they're our pubs?"
Bateman's tenants will also be paid for 'goodwill' when they leave a pub. It's part of the company's lease code known as "Eyes Wide Open".

Way to go… The former Blue Boar in Colchester which was transformed into the Pink Panther has won an major achievement award from Admiral Taverns, beating 2,000 other pubs in the pub chain.

Sundance is Greene King's new seasonal beer which will be available during July and August. It's described as 4.1% ABV, light in colour with flowery hop aromas.

The Essex Arms in Walthamstow has been sold for "alternative use" giving Enterprise a tidy £1m profit on the £1.9m sale.
